4 sourced statements Reference: WHO Model List of Essential Medicines, 24th List (September 2025) Reviewed 2026-10-05

The WHO Model List places epinephrine, or adrenaline, among the medicines used in anaphylaxis, and names calcium gluconate and acetylcysteine among specific antidotes to poisoning. Atropine appears both as a pre-operative medication and as an antidote, at 1 mg/mL in a 1 mL ampoule.

At a glance

  • Adrenaline, atropine, calcium gluconate, acetylcysteine, furosemide and heparin all appear on the WHO Model List.
  • Calcium gluconate is both an electrolyte replacement and the antidote for magnesium sulfate overdose.
  • Acetylcysteine is the antidote used in paracetamol overdose.
  • Sterile injectables ship with sterility and bacterial endotoxin results on the batch COA.
  • We supply 14 emergency and critical-care products, including vasoactive and antidotal injectables.

01What the published guidance says

Every statement below is drawn from WHO or MSF published material and linked to its source. We summarise; we do not reproduce. Statements marked as our own are commercial positions, not clinical guidance.

Anaphylaxis and acute allergy

The Model List places epinephrine (adrenaline) among the medicines used in anaphylaxis, and carries dexamethasone injection 4 mg/mL in 1 mL ampoule as disodium phosphate salt for both antiallergic use and palliative care, as well as in the antiemetic section.

Pre-operative and emergency antimuscarinics

Atropine appears twice on the Model List — as a pre-operative medication at 400 micrograms/mL and 1 mg/mL (sulfate) in 1 mL ampoule or vial, and among specific antidotes.

Specific antidotes

The Model List names calcium gluconate and acetylcysteine among specific antidotes to poisoning. Acetylcysteine is the established antidote in paracetamol overdose; calcium gluconate is also the antidote administered for magnesium sulfate overdose in obstetric care.

Dexamethasone is a multi-role hospital injectable

Beyond allergy, the Model List carries dexamethasone injection in the antiemetic section, where it appears alongside metoclopramide and ondansetron.

03Specifying your order

The five things worth stating on a purchase order for this group, so the quotation comes back right first time.

Strength and fill

State the concentration and the fill volume. Emergency presentations differ between markets and two ampoules can look alike.

Container type

Ampoule, vial or pre-filled syringe. Confirm which your protocol and your waste-handling procedures assume.

High-alert labelling

For adrenaline and atropine, specify any additional differentiation your pharmacy requires to avoid strength confusion.

Antidote pairing

If you stock magnesium sulfate, confirm whether calcium gluconate must be supplied alongside it as the antidote.

Endotoxin data

Specify that sterility and bacterial endotoxin results are required on the batch certificate of analysis.

04How we supply it

Standardised GMP production workshops with an independent R&D laboratory and a complete quality-inspection centre.

Resuscitation & vasoactive

Adrenaline, atropine, calcium gluconate, dobutamine and phentolamine injectables.

Antidotes & antidotal support

Acetylcysteine injection, calcium gluconate and phentolamine.

Critical-care adjuncts

Furosemide, heparin sodium, nimodipine, dexamethasone, diphenhydramine, chlorpheniramine and the neurotrophic injectables citicoline and aceglutamide.

Traceability

Every injectable batch ships with a COA covering assay and related substances. Sterility and bacterial endotoxin results are included for sterile products.

05Safety, labelling & regulatory notes

Points worth carrying into your tender, label review or clinical briefing.

  • Emergency injectables are hospital-use products. Confirm the strength, volume and container on the purchase order — emergency presentations differ between markets.
  • Adrenaline and atropine are high-alert medicines where strength confusion carries immediate patient risk. Verify labelling and differentiate pack designs.
  • Acetylcysteine for paracetamol overdose is a time-critical intervention. Stock levels should be planned against local poisoning burden, not average consumption alone.
  • Nimodipine injection is used in a specific neurological indication. Confirm the registered indication in your market before promoting it.

Do emergency injectables come with endotoxin data?
Sterile injectables are supplied with sterility and bacterial endotoxin results in the batch certificate of analysis, alongside assay and related-substances data.
Do you supply calcium gluconate as the antidote for magnesium sulfate overdose?
Yes. Calcium gluconate injection is supplied both as an electrolyte replacement and as the antidote given by slow intravenous injection when magnesium sulfate toxicity occurs.
Which of your emergency injectables carry endotoxin data?
All sterile injectables in this group are supplied with sterility and bacterial endotoxin results on the batch certificate of analysis, alongside assay and related-substances data.
