Oral administration (swallowed whole with water). Take once daily, at approximately the same time each day, on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 3 hours after a meal).

Afatinib is an irreversible epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). Unlike first-generation EGFR TKIs that bind reversibly, afatinib binds irreversibly to EGFR (ErbB1), HER2 (ErbB2), and HER4 (ErbB4), blocking signaling through these receptor tyrosine kinases.
